Eco village updates Bournville Model

Major appointments move Bournville Village extension forward English Partnerships and Bournville Village Trust have made a series of appointments in the development of the extension of the historical Lightmoor Village site in Telford. They have appointed Persimmon Homes as the preferred developer to build the first 40 homes, Tibbalds as the masterplanner of the entire 800-home scheme, Eachus as the landscape architect and Campbell Rees Hill as the engineer. The trust has also announced that its in-house architecture team will oversee all public realm building - including a new primary school - while Persimmon will appoint a separate practice for the housebuilding. The trust is committed to developing the entire 72ha site in the 'spirit of the rest of the village', a move that last year saw it admit to the AJ that there would be no space for Modernism. 'Lightmoor Village will be developed in a sensitive manner that respects the existing landscape and provides open space for public recreation and leisure,' a spokesman said. 'It will promote high-quality urban design and construction methods, together with the highest ecological and environmental standards.' Source: Architects' Journal 25-Aug-2004
