Scotland - after the dissolution of HEACS - what next?

Exhibition display At the closing conference of the Historic Environment Advisory Council of Scotland (HEACS) in Edinburgh on 20 May, concerns were expressed regarding future representation and support for those working in the historic environment in Scotland. Despite a generous offer from the Minister for Culture, External Affairs and the Constitution, Michael Russell MSP, speaking at the event, to support for an alternative that the sector might agree - amongst itself - to put forward, the demise of the organisation gave the conference an air of bewilderment. Especially as HEACS had published a number of useful and informative reports about the historic environment and its management.

As HTF opens its Membership to a wider audience it is hoped that the Forum can offer some support to practitioners in Scotland, as well as adding examples of good practice from north of the border to enhance its work.
