The Wood Window Alliance has produced an informative eight minute video showcasing new research by Imperial College London that demonstrates windows made to Wood Window Alliance standards have a minimum estimated service life of 60 years, which can be extended to 80 years or more.
The video explains how this results in a lower Whole Life Cost over 60 to 100 years than comparable PVC-U alternatives, as they will not have to be replaced during the life of a building; it details the advances in manufacturing and design behind the claims; it reviews research by Davis Langdon that shows Wood Window Alliance frames are CO2-negative; and it explores how to achieve authentic period detailing without sacrificing the energy-efficiency of modern window technology.
Members of the Wood Window Alliance make many different styles of window, but they are all factory-finished and have to meet stringent quality, performance and sustainability criteria, audited by an independent third party. They carry typical warranties of 30 years on the frames and eight years on the paint finish.
