National Planning Casework Unit (NPCU)

The Chief Planner at the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) wrote to local authorities on 10 March to confirm arrangements for handling planning casework, following the closure of the Regional Government Offices. The letter confirms the establishment of a new National Planning Casework Unit, stating: “These changes are part of the drive to devolve more powers to localities and remove burdens and constraints on local and neighbourhood organisations. A new Unit has been established and with immediate effect it will be taking over the planning casework previously dealt with by the Government Office Network."

As part of its caseload the NPCU will be dealing with listed building consents, conservation area consents, Article 4 directions and Local Development Orders.
