We are delighted to announce this event on Wednesday 13 September in Oxford.

Managing Contemporary and Historic Development and Design - Oxford

Starting out from Kellogg College, this fascinating two-part walking tour and seminar is an opportunity to visit developments built over the last 10 years around Oxford in their historic urban context, and discuss ways of balancing historic and contemporary design.

It will be useful to local authority officers and councillors with planning and design portfolios, conservation officers, developers, architects, urban designers and planners in private practice, town and parish councillors, and civic society members. The benefits of attending this seminar are:

  • A first-hand appreciation of contemporary development within an historic setting
  • An understanding of how planning guidance and decision-making frameworks are established and used
  • The opportunity to discuss guidance and its interpretation with key figures in the city
  • An awareness of the main issues for guiding and promoting good contemporary design
  • An appreciation of key conservation and urban design principles
  • Greater confidence in decision-making on design in historic places or conservation area settings.

The Historic Towns Forum has long seen the value in working with retail, tourism bodies councils, private companies and local communities in order to help practitioners within historic towns make the right connections to develop, promote, and understand what works within their town centres.

Working with several proactive and innovative bodies from within the sector, this July 31 and August 01 we are offering an event in conjunction with the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, the Town Council, Visit Herefordshire, Herefordshire College of Technology and new HTF partners ASHTAV. The event will focus on how to engage businesses and communities with the tourism economy, how to set up BIDs, make the most of neighbourhood planning, and importantly, how to work within current legislation using best practice and knowledge sharing case studies.

Community Engagement and Neighbourhood Planning are happening. Despite cynicism around the effectiveness and dissemination of, as well as egagement with,  the Localism Act, communities are doing just that - engaging effectively and siezing the opportunities that Government has handed to them. Just over 18 months on from the passing of the Act we examine in detail those proactive communities who are leading by example, and take a look at some of the first neighbourhood plans, as well as at some community groups' particular brand of 'muscular Localism'. Come along and learn what is being done, how to do it, and meet those groups who are leading the way. The opportunities are there. Take them while you can!

The Listed Property Show 2013

 

The FREE ADMISSION Listed Property Show returns to Olympia, London
and it looks set to be the biggest and best yet!

Olympia London – 16th and 17th February 2013

The exhibition, which is organised by the Listed Property Owners’ Club (LPOC), provides practical advice, tips and information for homeowners looking to maintain or refurbish their properties.

The seventh annual show will feature more than 100 specialist suppliers showcasing products and services.

A spokesman for the Listed Property Owners’ Club said: “We are delighted with the response to the previous shows and we already have more exhibitors joining us for the next show.”

The Listed Property Show brings together the industry’s best – all under one roof at London’s Olympia – and there’s no other event like it. It’s a unique opportunity for a stress-free one-to-one conversation with Conservation Officers, who will happily talk you through any hypothetical plans you may have about altering or extending your home. The event will also include architects
and planners, window and door manufacturers, craftsmen and ‘caring’ builders, as well as practical demonstrations.

More than 100 of the UK’s leading experts will be at the show to give advice and guidance. Many will be giving practical demonstrations, including woodcarving, lead work, plasterwork and window and door manufacturing. There will also be interactive talks by, amongst others, English Heritage.

In September and October 2011 HTF responded to the Mary Portas BIS High Street Review by holding two joint roundtable events with English Heritage, attended by leading figures from the retail and heritage sectors. This has fed directly into the Review and will feed further into this HTF retail seminar.
